Character Analysis

The stranger is a proud and (as the title indicates) ambitious, young man. He is also warm and a 'gentle spirit.' He is an elitist, but has no problem dwelling with poorer folk, he fits right in with this family that he visits. Among the rich folk, he is 'haughty and reserved.' He is a loner and has been traveling alone for a while. It shows on his face when he is received at the door of the cottage. Once greeted by the warm family, his spirits are lifted, and he makes himself comfortable in their home very quickly. This shows that he needs some positive human interaction. He is very open and honest with them. He truly believes what he says and loves to share his ideas and thoughts with people. He has an infectious influence on the family. They not only listen to his honest way of speaking but follow suit. He is quite the charmer, he flirts with the eldest daughter, and it is received very well by her.

He has great plans for his future and wishes to leave behind a legacy so everyone will remember his name. This is what he values more than anything else. Unfortunately for him, he meets his end the very same night and not even a memory of him is left behind.

i would like to compare these two interpretations of the crucible : 1) eric christ's interretation and wade bradford's interpretation. the main differences between there interretaions is that in the first one you can notice direct link to joseph mccarthy whereas the second one represents how the town is filled with hysteria.the second interpretation shows that author believes that the story   about puritan town in salem is based on actual events while the first example shows the sencible reference to sort of bias.
