Ludwig van Beethoven was born in 1770. He was a German composer and pianist. He moved to Vienna in
his early 20s to study with Joseph Hayden. He gained a
reputation as a virtuose pianist very soon, but he began to
lose his hearing. He became completely deaf when he was
in his late twenties, but he continued to compose, conduct
and perform. He died in 1827.
