For months, the team searched until one of the divers spotted some strange debris on the sea floor.4 The pieces were bits of the scrolls that had been torn away by the sea. Reyes and his team carefully brought the remaining parts of the scrolls to the surface. There, they found that the scroll was almost perfectly preserved. With this discovery, the Great Sea scrolls were able to share their story after centuries of silence.
