Elizabeth Erikson, or "Ellie" as her family called her, was always sad. Her mother and father were great, but she always knew something was different. Like people weren't there that should have been. She's seen pictures hidden away in a desk that had three people. A young boy with auburn hair and a small "x" under his right eye, a taller boy with the same hair color with a heart, and an older girl with blonde hair and a cross. All three of them looked like her, but specifically, they looked like her mother. Today was her 10th birthday, and she decided to work up the courage to ask about them. She didn't want any presents or cake, she just wanted answers.

"Mom...Who are the people in the pictures?"

The older woman looked at her, with morose eyes.

"They're...people you should have known. They're your siblings."

"Well, where are they?" Ellie had practically yelled.

Carolynne Erikson sat down in a chair, arms wrapped around herself.

"They're in New York. They've run off to carry out their own lives years ago, but the middle child, Avery, called me last night."

Ellie lit up, she finally knew something! She finally knew who the people in the pictures were!"

"Really?? Can I see them?"

"Maybe...next weekend? I've already told Avery about you, and I'm sure he's relayed the information onto the others." Avery was never one to keep any big family secrets, even if he had to.

"No way!! This is the best birthday I've ever had! I ever will have!"

Ellie ran into Carolynne and hugged her tight. She didn't have to know about all the other family secrets quite yet...
