Frances Eliza Hodgson was born on November 24th, 1849, in Manchester, England. Her father worked as an ironmonger and died just three years before she was born. Both the United Kingdom and the United States had ancestors. She has written three well-known children's books. The Little Princess was released in 1905, and The Secret Garden was published in 1911, after Little Lord Fauntleroy was first published in 1886. Frances wrote popular adult and children's novels, as well as plays. In 1924, she died in her Long Island, New York, home.
Mary Lennox, a particularly arrogant and nasty young girl, is the protagonist of The Secret Garden. She begins the novel in India, but is forced to flee to her uncle's mansion in England to escape a deadly cholera outbreak. The novel is about how the discovery of a secret garden changes Mary's character and another character in the book. The transformation of Mary from a spoiled child to a sweet-hearted young lady was fascinating to see. Because the description drew up such a vivid vision in my imagination, my favorite portion was probably when Mary first discovers the ten-year-old garden.
I hope this helped you guys out a lot!
