They were mostly nomadic, living off buffalo meat, gathering vegetables, living in teepees, and relying on their horses for hunting and warfare purposes. Long-distance attacks into Mexico and as far north as Canada were common among the Kiowas. The Kiowa were noted for their leather goods, including boots, jackets, and moccasins, which they embellished with beads and painted motifs. Kiowa warriors went great distances to trade with neighboring tribes. Today, the Kiowa number about 12,000 people, many of whom live in Oklahoma and other parts of the Southwest.
