What it it that foreshadows johnny’s predicament on page 69?

It might be understood that this scene might foreshadow Johnny's death at the end.  After crying and revealing their emotions, the characters decided to hide in a church and they started to read a book and he really liked it. He felt identified with the Southern gentlemen because of their looks.
