A clause is a group of words that can act as a sentence, but is not necessarily a complete sentence on its own. Brought is a past tense of bring. So when someone says 'I brought my phone' its a past tense of 'I will bring my phone.'

And an example of clause would be 'because she smiled at him,' A noun or a pronoun that is a subject, attached to a predicate verb. "She" is the subject and "smiled" is the predicate verb.
