Dr. Jekyll is a well-liked, virtuous and admirable character. He is described as a moral person who engages in charity work. We also know that he is courteous, and that people like him. Moreover, he is a respectable doctor with significant wealth, in excellent shape, and destined for a good future. His good character is, therefore, an extreme contrast to that of Mr. Hyde, which contributes to developing the theme of the story.
