On October 30, 1938, Orson Wells dis the radio version of The War of the Worlds. In this version special effects were used "to add excitement and make the story feel real." The purpose was to recreate a typical evening broadcast that was interrupted by news bulletins. It wanted to sound as if it was real; a close example would be the movie The Blair Witch Project in which the audience believed the footage was taken by normal people, this made them have more authentic and strong reactions. This effects were very effective as some people thought that the alien invasion was really happening developing the myth that collective hysteria was caused by the program.
