Why are the words an author chooses so important?

"A." It is vitally important that the author chooses the correct words to fit the scene, the mood, and the audience reading or watching the material presented. With the wrong words chosen, the audience can form a completely different impression of the work or even be put-off to the point where they become upset or irritated by something mentioned when such a reaction was not the intent of the author.
