Well, that really depends on how you interpret the text. When I read it, I got the impression that ultimately there is no free will in Faustus. Whether he wanted to defy God or Mephistophilis is rather irrelevant because Faustus's fate had already been decided. He would sell his soul for knowledge nevertheless, regardless of the fact what he wanted or didn't want to do. It is stated a several times in the text that Faustus doesn't really have free will or the power to control his destiny, so in this context, I don't think his resistance to God has been 'willful' given that he didn't really have a will of his own.
