jane austen was an english author. the writer was born in 1775. she died in 1817. two hundred years later, leaders in austen's home country did something to honor her. they put her face on british money.
on july 18, 2017, the bank of england showed its new 10-pound banknote. it shows austen's face. there's also a line from one of her books. it says: "i declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! "
in fact, many readers enjoy austen's novels. emma is one of these books. austen's stories are about women. these heroines are smart. they face problems with family, friends, and love. people today understand this. they have many of the same problems.
austen's books are here to stay. and now, her 10-pound note can be used to buy them.
