He also tried to take the money from Huck, envious of his fortune without a single care for his son. Unlike a typical father figure, he cares only of himself. The passage describes how he actually looks like, unkempt and tattered.

Though a minor character in the story, he emerges often. But most of the time, he is shown in a bad light. Even Huck claims he is a bad memory. The beginning of the story even shows a relieved Huck happy about the absence of his father in his life. For that only means an end to all the hurt and abuses he got from him.
