Which date should i use for this letter, 2016 or future date (- .- .2049) ?

Future date , a little more interesting ..

I think if the letter is a bit futuristic then add the future date, but if the date is more like present time and not very futuristic, then add the present date, only because it would make more sense to the reader if there's say, "flying cars", but with the future date, see if you put 2016 on something like that, it would throw the viewer off. I hope maybe that helped? :)
