The true nature of julius caesar and his ambitions has been a topic of great debate . the painting entitled caesar victorius and shakespeare's portrayal of caesar represent the two different points of view in regard to caesar. one sees caesar as pure and above reproach and the other sees caesar as ambitious and grasping.  shakespeare clearly portrays caesar as hungry for power. when offered the crown of an emperor, caesar refuses it reluctantly. each time he is offered the crown, it's harder for him to refuse it.  on the other hand, the painting shows caesar as blessed by angels. the presence of angels in the painting suggest caesar has been placed in power by god himself. it is not caesar's ambition and selfish desire for power that has won him power but it is god's divine will. the painting even suggests that caesar is not human and ambitious but that caesar is divine himself because the angels seem to be not just approving of caesar but even praising caesar. the contrast between sakesoeare's portrayal of caesar and the painting caesar victorious are classic opposite answers to the old question of "who really was julius caesar"?
