Before you paraphrase a line or a passage, you should first replace the writer’s original words with synonyms restate the details more simply identify the most basic information put the information into your own words

When in doubt, eliminate some out (I just made that up, self high-five!). But no, seriously, it works -

(Option 1) People think of paraphrasing as saying what the writer said a different way, only that is the easy way out. In order for your statement to work, you need to insert what would be considered first and not what is technically assumed 'paraphrasing' is. *kicks option 1 out the door*

(Option 2) That's a whole other genre, one affectionately called summarization. *waves option 2 goodbye as it runs off to marry option 1*

(Option 4) Hello there. That's what happens when you're paraphrasing a piece of writing. You're a trap answer, the fail safe to throw Dasasd and I off...although, you'd do well to be paired with option 1 *option 4 gasps in realization before chasing after option 2 for a duel to win option 1's love*

Identify the most basic information. For sure. You have to really know what you're paraphrasing before you paraphrase it.
