Read this excerpt from act i of shakespeare’s macbeth and complete the questions that follow. macbeth: i am thane of cawdor: if good, why do i yield to that suggestion whose horrid image doth unfix my hair and make my seated heart knock at my ribs, against the use of nature? present fears are less than horrible imaginings; my thought, whose murder yet is but fantastical, shakes so my single state of man that function is smothered in surmise, nothing is but what is not. this excerpt is part of a soliloquy that reveals macbeth’s ( inner conflict, passionate nature, unscrupulous nature ). he is hesitant and lacks the confidence to go ahead with the terrible crime. the last line refers to the theme of ( fate versus free will, appearance versus reality, power and tyranny ).
