Imogen had left his town and came back to his hometown with the people she grew up with. These people know her well because they grew up with and they don't judge her according to society's standards because she is not married and has no kids.

I think what it means to know someone or know oneself according to the poem is basically not to judge a book by its cover. Because if you knew a person well you would find out that they are cool and fun just the same way Imogen was funny and a good person but society judged her differently. This can also remind oneself not to beat down themself just because they are different from other people.
