In French To talk about what happened in the past, you can use the passé composé. The passé composé is made up of a helping verb and a past participle.
The helping verb in most cases is a form of the verb avoir. The past participle of
most -er verbs is formed by replacing the -er with -é. While the forms of avoir
change to match the subject, the past participle remains the same.
j'ai mangé
tu as mangé
il/elle/on a mangé
nous avons mangé
vous avez mangé
ils/elles ont mangé
To say what didn't happen, place ne... pas around the helping verb.
Je n'ai pas trouvé de chemise à ma taille.
Complete the following sentences with the passé composé of the verbs in parentheses.
1. Philippine
trois jeans. (essayer)
2. Nous
un cerf-volant. (acheter)
3. Est-ce que tu

4. Dominique

5. Je

6. Jérôme et Isaac
ce matin. (nager)
7. Vous
L? (ne pas décider)
