The mining of copper, gold, nickel, manganese, and iron is important to several of the high islands. Textiles, home goods, and packaged foods are among the items that are manufactured. Agriculture, both subsistence and commercial, is important to both the formal and the informal economies. Coconuts, sugarcane, vanilla, and pineapples are some of the most profitable products.
