The establishment of French colonies in America was attracted by the Spanish success stories in the Caribbean. France was committed to spreading Catholicism thus it started its activities to explore the new world. The main focus was to establish colonies that would create trade networks and gain wealth the Spanish people.

The British colonies in America were divided into chartered, proprietary and royal colonies. The focus was to increase their power and wealth. They were aiming to establish colonies that would grow raw materials that were not grown in England and create new trading markets.

The French established few settlements as compared to the British who had thirteen permanent colonies. The French associated with the natives in a friendly manner through trade, marriage and religious conversions with less  efforts of grabbing the lands that belonged to the natives. Unlike the French, the British did not have friendly connection with natives because their king was cruel and did not view the natives as equals.They were more business oriented.
