After the World War II, the British Empire was economically and military exhausted, and on top of it the country had lot of repairing to do on its own soil. This made them to start granting independence to their colonies as they were no longer powerful enough to keep them and control them. India was one of those colonies. The British though decided to partition the Indian subcontinent into two countries in order to avoid conflicts if it was only one country because of the tensions between the two major religious groups, Hindus and Muslims. This resulted into the creation of two countries eventually, India and Pakistan. India was the Hindu dominated territory, Pakistan was the Muslim dominated territory. This didn't prevent the conflicts though, instead in sparked them, with lot of riots, violence, displacement, murdering of people because of their religion taking place, and the tensions are still there even in the present. As it was not enough that there were two countries formed out of one, a third one emerged later on, with Bangladesh fighting for its independence and getting it after a long and bloody conflict.
