Some ways in which ethnics group may be privileged can be by the organizations they are members of or have associations with. for example, white americans belonging to a certain type of private club, such as a country club. these types of clubs can be expensive, exclusive and have specific requirements in order to join. having these requirements may limit access and acceptance of other ethnic groups who do not have the income or the status. which in turn may instill in white americans who are accepted into these clubs to feel entitled and privileged. according to the textbook, white americans have gained large scale entry into almost all clubs, cliques and fraternal groups. such acceptance is a key indicator of assimilation. (p.117) i see ethnicity becoming more apparent when i observe different ethic groups becoming larger and more relevant in their communities. for example, irish americans who participate in a st patrick's day parade and are very proud of their their heritage and want to show other people their pride. also, mexican americans who open a mexican restaurant. not only are they providing a serve to the community but they are providing jobs. they have become business owners which generates income for their families, the people they employ as well as paying taxes to support the town in which the restaurant is located. ethnicity appears to occur in response to other people's advancing their own ethnicity when education is involved. education opens doors. it does not matter who you are, where you come from or what color your skin is. education is the great equalizer. each ethnic group wants to prosper, be respected and have a lifestyle of quality and dignity. from generation to generation each different ethnic groups can see how an education will change the path of their futures.
