Problem 2.

p = 750 hpa, t = 25°c. let the mixing ratio at this point be 0.015 and the saturation mixing ratio be 0.025. for a parcel of air with these properties, find the:

a) saturation mixing ratio

b) potential temperature

c) dewpoint temperature

d) wet-bulb temperature

e) relative humidity

f) vapour pressure

g) values of p and t at the condensation level. the condensation level is the level at which the parcel becomes saturated if it is lifted adiabatically.

h) amount of water vapour (in g kg-1) that is condensed as the parcel ascends from the condensation level to 500 hpa.

i) assume that half of the water condensed on its ascent to 500 hpa is precipitated out of the parcel. estimate its temperature when it descends back to 750 hpa.
