Plz explain how scientists use geologic time to determine the age of landforms.

Rocks and landforms are found in deep layers. Each layer was formed at a different time in history. The deeper a layer of rock is and closer it is to earth's  crust, the older that rock layer is.

Think of a stack of books. If you stack 10 books on top of each other, which book did you stack the longest time ago? The first book. The same principle applies to rock layers and geologic times. The younger rock layers are near the surface as they have formed some time after the layer under it.

The deeper rock layers are the oldest and the youngest rock layers are near the top, having formed after the layer under it.
