What is likely to happen if trade barriers are decreased between north american countries and other countries throughout the world?

Most trade barriers are set in place to protect the enviroment, the consumers and the workers. Trade barriers restrict the global corporations from extorting less prominent countrys of their labor and resources. If trade barriers where decreased it would give more power to the global corporations and less power to the average consumer or worker.
