Australopithecines are from the genus hominicus, it existed in African between 1.9 - 4.2 million years ago. It is believed that the Homo-genus which includes modern human being descended from this genus.

Some 4.2 million years ago, it was discovered through archaeological findings that Australopithecus existed in the Eastern part of Africa and they spread through the continent before they became extinct 1.9 million years ago.

A specimen of genus Australopithecus was found in 1924 in South Africa at a Lime quarry by workers, also in 1959 the first Australopithecus was found in the Eastern part of Africa in Olduvai Gorge in Tanzania by Leakey.
