Why is there such a big concern over Lake Balkhash drying up?

Lake Balkhash is used as a water source for farming in China. The water of Lake Balkhash is also used for industry, recreation, and transportation. This decreases the amount and quality of the water flowing into Lake Balkhash. In the 1970s, construction of a hydroelectric plant also reduced the flow of water into the lake. As a result, the water level in the lake dropped by more than two meters. Fish, birds, and plants also live by Lake Balkhash. The loss of this lake could be harmful to wildlife. Not only that, but losing Lake Balkhash can mean less water is available to people for drinking. This can also mean less water is available for farming and industry. People use and survive on this lake heavily, so if it eventually dries up, it can spark new problems.
