A. Describe the flow of migration for China at the local (sub-national) level.

At the sub-national level, the flow of migration is from rural areas all over the country, to urban areas, especially to the biggest cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Chonquing, and the cities of the Pearl River Delta.

B. Describe the flow of migration for China at the global (international) level.

The Chinese have historically migrated to almost every region of the world, but they particularly cluster in the United States and Southeast Asia. In fact, the top 3 countries by number of Chinese immigrants are Thailand, Malasya, and the United States.

C. Explain one possible limitation in calculating population density arithmetically for a country such as China.

The arithmetic calculation would give a rough number that would not indicate anything about the regional differences in population density, and the sustainability of the population. China in particular is a good example, because the west of the country is almost empty, while the East has a extremely high population density.

D. Explain what calculating China’s agricultural density might reveal about a provinces’ wealth.

Densely populated regions in the East of China are wealthier than empty regions in the west. Agricultural density is a factor in this wealth difference, and provinces with high agricultural density like Shandong and Heinan are among the wealthiest in China.

E. Explain one social, economic, or environmental benefit of using physiological density to calculate population density in China.

An enviromental benefit would be that the government would know what regions are reaching a point of being unsustainable, and this would allow the government to take the appropriate measures.
