2) The particles are carried away by rivers or wind

3) The particles settle in another place and form a layer

4) Other layers are put on top of them

5) The lower layers get pressed together

6) Water is squeezed out. The minerals left in the sediment act like cement

7) The pressure and the mineral cement stick the particles together

8) The solid rock forms slowly

Now, the sedimentary rocks may get exposed to repeat the cycle again, or move lower into the ground to become a metamorphic ground, to later become one of the three types.
