gabby lives by the ocean. she notices that sometimes the water comes up high. it gets close to the sidewalk, and there is very little beach. sometimes the water is low. it is much farther from the sidewalk, and there is a big beach. describe how she could use the pier and side walk to make measurements to study the patterns

Gabby should know this is happening coz of tides and during night the oceans face high tides and low during day.

She can use a mareograph, a tide gauge is a device for measuring the change in sea level relative to a vertical datum. This way she can study the sea patterns also.
