England was an agricultural country before industrial revolution. Most of the population had to depend on agricultural occupations. Industrial activities were secondary occupations. Small and cottage industries of wool , cotton , coal , iron etc were operated in local levels. The goods were handmade with traditional spinning wheel and handloom. Women and children used to make thread while men used to weave clothes. When the Act of England 1700 AD banned the import of cotton clothes from other countries , the traditional method could not fulfill the increasing demand of clothes inside the county. The thread spun by 8 persons would be sufficient only for a person to weave clothes. Consequently, when the demands increased , the creative and innovative English introduces a series of inventions to address them.
