Story 2: In the 1970’s, Cardiovascular Diseases (Heart Attack, Stroke, Hypertension) were ravaging the American Public as the leading cause of DEATH! A questionable research study pointed toward a specific blood fat called Low-Density Lipoprotein (LDL) as the underlying cause of CVD’s. Diets that were high in saturated fats (solid at room temperature, i. e. cooled solid bacon grease) were
known to increase LDL’s in the blood. Consequently, in 1982, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), American Medical Association (AMA) and the American Heart Association (AHA) made sweeping changes in dietary recommendations to the American Public and Food Industry to reduce the amount of Dietary Fat from 40% to 30% of daily calories.
