Many people are  employed as  farmers.  A farmer can earn  up to ten times more  growing opium  poppies for the  drugs trade than  growing wheat for  food supplies.  Afghanistan is politically  unstable and the Taliban  and ISIS operate in this  area. This makes law  enforcement difficult. Most  opium farms are grown in  Taliban controlled areas.  Farmers may not be aware of the severity of the problem and  are only trying to support their families with a better quality of  life, as farming opium pays better than other jobs.
