Why are non conventional resources important?

Non-conventional energy sources such as solar and tidal energy are abundant, renewable, and eco-friendly. Although conventional energy sources, these being coal, natural gases etc, are efficient and readily harnessed, they are not infinite and are inimical to the environment.
