The purpose of this lesson is for the students to learn that light interacts differently with different types of materials. Students will be able to categorize materials into 3 categories based on how the light interacts with those materials: transparent (light shines through), translucent (some light shines through, and opaque (no light shines through).

Glass, plastic, mirrors="If a material is a light colour or has a smooth surface, more light will be reflected. Shiny opaque materials, such as mirrors, reflect most of the light that strikes them. If a material is a dark colour or has a rough surface, more light will be absorbed. Opaque objects that absorb light also become warm."
