Objective: The objective of this lab is to help familiarize you with the basic types of shorelines (submergent verses emergent) and the geologic processes and features associated with each type. Introduction: This exercise will utilize the information contained in Chapter 20 (Shorelines) in your textbook. Waves rarely approach a beach directly parallel to the shoreline but instead approach a beach at an angle. This angular crashing of the wave on the beach will create a longshore current parallel to the beach and directed from the point of earliest impact to the point of later impact of a single wave crest. This current is responsible for moving sediment down the coastline. It also moves people swimming in the ocean. Have you ever entered the ocean to swim, and suddenly found yourself moving down the beach away from where you entered
