There are different methods employed in Central and East Asia to manage water supply. Reservoirs in the form of dam construction provide water for irrigation, for household supply and finally for hydropower generation. In response to water crisis countries such as China have expanded water infrastructures and put in place regulations that manage water usage.  

In Central Asia, there is a serious case of water shortage, countries have to cooperate to share the available water for their prospective needs. This means there has to be a balance for upstream countries in production on hydroelectricity and downstream agriculture.
