Yes, a DNA test is a reliable way to know if two people are related. This is because our DNA is replicated with very few mistakes and must be passed on to offspring for them to be able to survive. Because our DNA shows many differences between person to person because of the combination of both parts of our parents genomes, it shows the diversity between all people. However, because our DNA is passed on to subsequent generations, with today’s technology we can easily track inheritance patterns of certain traits and if there are enough shared traits in certain patterns, you can determine if two people are relatives or not.
