Well I can’t write the full essay for you but I can give you five individual points and I’ll give some details, and you can expand on them. I’m assuming you’re talking about American football because I’m British but it’s cool, I think I know enough to answer this. Alright so:
•The first way football has impacted American society is through the economy and the Super Bowl. I can’t remember where but I’m sure you can search it up, but I think I read that the American economy loses up to $3bn in lost productivity on the Monday after the Super Bowl due to all the people taking days off.
•The second way through the whole stereotyping and masculinity argument. It’s like how a father and a son can bond over football and that that’s how you raise a man has been so ingrained into American society over the past decades by advertising and other forms of media, that it has genuinely had an impact on today’s society. In the movies, all the ‘cool’ kids are jocks and they all play football but the outcasts are all nerds who can’t play sport, and even though they’re talented in other things, they’re still seen as unpopular and cool because of their inability to play football (or sports in general, but mainly football).
•The third is through American politics. I’m sure you’ve heard of players taking a knee during the anthem, and this has really split American society and there are actual arguments and fights occurring between friends, between families, between two generations of parents vs. kids that argue that taking a knee is either right or wrong etc. I think LeBron James said that sport in general has always been used to carry a message of politics, and Trump retaliated by calling LeBron stupid (I’m paraphrasing, you can find the actual sources online.
•The fourth is through “patriotism” I suppose. I can speak for the UK and most of the world that no one else apart from America really plays football. And that’s literally because the answer’s in the name: American football. This is a sport America exclusively created. It belongs to America and it is huge in America and you guys are proud of this sport. As a society, you might disagree over certain aspects of the sport, but if a Brit came up to you and said soccer is better than football, all of you would team up and absolutely destroy the Brit and say that soccer is nothing compared to football. So in a way, it brings society together.
•Lastly, through education. Many people are enabled to go to university (I think you guys call it college) based off scholarships to play football and other sports. This is a huge thing for American society, as previously, a lot of talented people couldn’t go to college because of the expensive fees that they charge, but through these scholarships, they’re enabled to learn at the same time and gain actual qualifications, which in turn enables society to gain more knowledge and be smarter in general.
