Cytoplasm is cell fluid, the ground substance of a cell that fills the area between the nuclear membrane and the cells membrane. Ribosomes give cytoplasm a grainy appearance, they are small grainy particles. They are the molecular machinery upon which polypeptide chains are assembled (protein). Cytoplasm contains up to 20 000 ribosomes.
