Terpin hydrate is usually known as Codeine. Codeine syrup is an opiate pain reliever and suppressant that is recommended by doctors.

It is used in the treatment of acute bronchitis, pneumonia, inflammatory diseases in the upper part of the respiratory tract. etc.

The side effect as a result of the overdose of this drug can be:

drowsiness, loss of appetite, nausea or stomach upset and;abdominal pain.

Some people, however, prefer to abuse codeine syrup in order to experience sensations of pleasure and euphoria. This tends to have a substantial influence on a person's health.

As a pharmacist, these are drugs are not to be misused but rather be prescribed by a medical practitioner.

To handle this situation:

A 16-year-old female coming to the prescription counter( where medicine is bought with a prescription) should be asked for a signed manuscript by a medical practitioner indicating the purchase of such a drug.This is to verify that the purchase is valid and it's not to be used for other purposes.The required pharmacy law to be enforced is the code and ethics of pharmacists, Section 1, line 2; Duties to patients and clients:

"Any drug or medicine that is predicted to be misused or harmful to human health condition should not be provided to a patient if no evidence backed the drug or medicine is needed for such objectives."
