Why does the body require a period of rest after intense activity

For example- if u work out ur arms for a week straight without breaks, u should most likely take the next week completely off for the body to heal an to come back stronger for the next week u work out, most likely beneficial to ur overall health to perform better/take breaks an to gain bigger muscles, hope this helped :)
