I think that people this that e-cigarettes are safer for one big reason: there's no smoke.

Smoke has been attributed with negative connotations since the beginning of time. It's been associated with fires, war, fighting and even death. Since we all know that smoking normally could cause black lungs due to the smoke, people assume that e-cigarettes aren't as dangerous because there is no smoke to contribute to the blackening of lungs. They're wrong. Instead, there are tiny pieces of aluminium that can cause a disease called "popcorn lung".

Another thing is it shows e-cigs as popular and everyone does it. Peer pressure could also be a big contributor to the misleading idea that e-cigarettes are safe.
