Basal energy expenditure (BEE) is the minimum number of calories you use to carry out your basic bodily functions, such as breathing and maintaining homeostasis. Your caloric requirement is the number of calories you need to maintain your weight. Calorie requirements can change from person to person based on activity level and other factors. Use this calculator to find your BEE and calorie needs. Follow these steps to complete the process: Enter your height, weight, and age in the respective fields.

In the Stress Factor field, None will most likely be the appropriate choice. However, you can select one of the conditions listed in the drop-down menu if you currently have one of these conditions. The conditions don’t apply if you’ve had them in the past and they’re currently resolved.

In the Activity Factor field, choose Bedrest or Ambulating. Ambulating means you don’t have a medical condition that requires you to stay in bed.

After you determine your BEE and caloric requirement, enter a different weight, age, stress factor, and activity factor.

Try a few different scenarios to determine what factors change the BEE and caloric requirement.

Fill in the given table for yourself and two other people. Be sure to use different scenarios.
