"Know thyself" has been a revered phrase ever since it was first used in ancient Greece. Our culture and language interpret the phrase as "self-awareness." Becoming aware of yourself isn't an easy feat, and it can be quite dangerous if, when we see ourselves for all that we are and all that we are not, we never change. Accepting who we are is important, but accepting it as our only choice can be defeating. That is why it is equally important to change thyself while in pursuit of knowing thyself.

André Gide wrote in "Autumn Leaves” (1950): "A caterpillar who seeks to know himself would never become a butterfly.”

Self-awareness is crucial to living a successful life, as we need to see ourselves without judgment and bias. We must see the strengths and the weaknesses, face our emotions, build self-confidence, and believe that we can become even more.

Question- In your own words, evaluate the argument above and the specific claims made as to whether the reasoning is valid and sufficiently drives home the point. Identify any statements you believe are false or have incomplete reasoning, and add your opinion on both the importance to "know thyself," and the importance of "change thyself."
