Imagine that you are sitting in a restaurant and someone begins to choke. what could you do to this person?

If someone begins to choke one can help by giving them abdominal thurst if they are not able to breathe or cough.

Choking takes place if the airway of a person suddenly gets blocked completely or partially which leads to incapable to breathe. Choking could be mild or severe.

In severe choking people need immediate assistance, in this case, call emergency services or call 911 and start giving them abdominal thrust:  

Stand behind them and move your head slightly to one side. Support their chest with 1 hand. Lean them forward might help in clearing the blockage Give up to 5 sharp blows between their shoulder blades with the heel of your hand.  If the blockage is not cleared, give up to 5 abdominal thrusts again.

If even it not get clear wait for the help and look for the person to not faint.

If the person choking does pass out, roll them on their side so fluids like saliva or vomit do not go into their lungs. If they stop breathing or have no pulse, do CPR until help arrives
