Anaerobic exercise is an intense physical activity of very short duration, with contracting muscles and dependent on energy sources that are stored in the muscles. This makes the anaerobic exercise independent of the use of inhaled oxygen as an energy source.

Anaerobic exercise is a high strength and higher potential kind of exercise that is completely different from aerobic exercise. During anaerobic exercise the idea is to get more energy which is released for a small interval of time in which oxygen request surpasses the oxygen supply.

Anaerobic respiration is a process by which energy is liberated from glucose without requiring oxygen. Humans are capable to use energy released by anaerobic respiration but for short interval of time. It is less productive than aerobic respiration at liberating energy, but it releases energy faster.

Glycolysis normally takes place in muscle cells during high potency training but without oxygen and produce quick energy. This process also release lactic acid that is the reason, the muscles of an individual get so tired after the energy burst. It helps in increasing bone strength and density, maintain weight, boost metabolism and fight depression. There are several exercises and movements that need short burst of potent energy are weight lifting, jumping rope, sprinting and high intensity interval training.
