Why many cases of abuse and violence are not reported?

Some abusers threaten the victims if they tell, that they would kill them, or follow them till they die. This is quite scary, and the victim of the violence or abuse would not tell/report it. Also, the abused person would most likely want to stay out of trouble. 

Some abusers threaten their victims and if they let something out, it doesn't go exactly well for the victim.
